Impro Jazz: Cort Lund feat. Casper Hejlesen
For the first time jazz duo Cort Lunde will meet Casper Hejlesen for a improvised jazz session. Impro Jazz is a concert format that explores the potential of improvisation through a simple premise: a jazz duo invite a third musician they are curious to collaborate with. The choice is open – it may be a fellow jazz artist they haven’t played with before or someone from a different musical tradition or genre. Each concert serves as a temporary platform for artistic exchange. Are you going to miss this music experiment? ABOUT CORT LUNDE Thomas Cortes and Erik Lunde blend jazz, electronica, and classical sound art into a richly textured, meditative sonic universe. With sold-out shows, an international tour, and Album of the Week on DR P8Jazz, they create musical interpretations of both nature and culture, while playfully reimagining the jazz duo format. Over the past two years, Cort Lunde has collaborated with some of Denmark’s leading museums, sold out concerts at the Thorvaldsen Museum during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, composed music for a documentary nominated at the Alpinale Film Festival, and been named Album of the Week on DR P8Jazz. They have received multiple grants from the Danish Arts Foundation, toured nationally and internationally, held a release concert at the legendary Jazzhus Montmartre, and performed at Designmuseum Denmark’s event for Hollywood stars such as Lily Collins and Ted Danson — both of whom purchased their albums. ABOUT CASPER HEJLESEN Casper Hejlesen is a young, award-winning jazz guitarist and composer from Poulstrup, near Hjørring in Northern Denmark. Before turning 21, he had already received three prestigious awards. In the autumn of 2019, he was named Jazz Artist of the Year in Northern Jutland, and earlier that same year, he received The Piano Tuner’s Music Prize. In 2017, he was also awarded Spar Nord Hjørring’s Cultural Prize. Casper is deeply passionate about both the classic and modern American jazz traditions, while remaining firmly rooted in his native Jutland. The contrast between the intensity of American bebop and the meditative landscapes of his upbringing is clearly reflected in his rich, mature, and well-balanced compositions.

SOLEN ER SEXET AT PLADS23
For two weeks in June, the cross-aesthetic collective SOLEN ER SEXET occupies the Palm House, where they work on a manifesto for a more sustainable performing culture and explore the limits of the modern musical. PLADS23 is a cultural center that builds on Grønttorvet's unique artistic heritage. Where artists previously transformed the old square halls into underground public art spaces, PLADS23 now brings contemporary art into a new setting — in dialogue with Valby's local community. Through three individual artist residencies, artists take over the Palmehuset — a distinctive glass house in the middle of the neighbourhood and an annex to PLADS23. Each artist invites the local community twice: first in the form of an open studio during the first week and for a presentation at the end of the course. But the daily process is always visible from the outside due to the transparency of the house. The project is generously supported by the City of Copenhagen's Culture and Leisure Administration. The artist collective SOLEN ER SEXET are the first to take over the space and unfold their project during a two-week stay from June 2—15. 6/6 — Part I: Open studio 5pm-6pm Meet the artist, have a chat, have a beer, and get an insight into the work process. Free admission. 13/6 — Part II:  Viewing 8pm-9pm Discover the results of the two-week residency. Open to all and free admission. The project is supported by the Culture and Leisure Administration of the City of Copenhagen. ABOUT SOLEN ER SEXET SOLEN ER SEXET is an artist collective with floating crew whose gross troupe counts performance artist Marie Kim, trombonist Jakob Antz Vinner, musician/composer Lise Westzynthius, costume designer Andrea Momme, musician/producer Rikke Østergaard aka Rin and writer/playwright Bjørn Rasmussen. One of the main ideas behind SOLEN ER SEXET is a desire to expand the usual band institution, explore and challenge genres and incorporate other art forms. ABOUT THE RESIDENCY WEEKS For two weeks in June, the cross-aesthetic artist group will be in residence at PLADS23. SOLEN ER SEXET works partly on a manifesto for a more sustainable performance culture, and partly on an examination of the limits of the contemporary musical. For what is a musical, and should that partout overwhelm? Could one imagine an introvert musical? A musical in which the performers' being also gets to shine through, in an otherwise typically rather action-packed genre? It is a goal of the collective to constantly cross-pollinate each other's work and move shamelessly into new territories — with the conviction that the exciting thing arises when you venture out on rocking ground cross-medially. It is in the translation between body and tone, between substance and trombone, that new, caring languages are projected and regenerated. In this borderland, SOLEN ER SEXET always has the audience in mind as a co-player who is invited into the work with community singing and a tender, open palm.
